LONDON – British police arrested four individuals on Saturday after a group of Hindu extremist protesters attempted to force their way towards the Pakistani High Commission in London, sparking a scuffle with law enforcement.
The protest, organized by hardline Hindu outfits, was held in opposition to Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. As tensions escalated, officers from London’s Metropolitan Police moved in swiftly to prevent the group from breaching security barriers around the diplomatic premises.
According to authorities, the four individuals were taken into custody on charges of public disorder and rioting. A strong police presence was maintained throughout the day to prevent further unrest.
In response, a large crowd of British Pakistanis and Kashmiris gathered outside the High Commission in a counter-demonstration. Waving Pakistani and Kashmiri flags, the participants condemned what they described as “provocative and threatening behaviour” by the Indian demonstrators. They also voiced strong support for Pakistan and its military, pledging continued advocacy for the rights of Kashmiris.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, thousands of Indian community members rallied at Melbourne’s Federation Square on Saturday to protest against Pakistan, reflecting the growing diaspora tensions linked to the Kashmir conflict.
