
ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) — A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck several regions of Pakistan on Saturday morning, triggering panic in major cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
The tremors—marking the third earthquake in a week—were felt at 11:47 AM, prompting residents to evacuate homes and workplaces in alarm.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake’s epicentre was located near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, at a depth of 94 kilometres. The coordinates were recorded at latitude 36.21°N and longitude 71.34°E.
Strong tremors were reported across several regions, including Lower Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Nowshera, Upper Dir, Shabqadar, Mohmand, Chitral, Swat, Swabi, Gilgit, and Mardan. In Punjab, jolts were also felt in Chiniot, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhalwal, and Mansehra, while parts of Azad Kashmir—particularly Athmuqam in the Neelum Valley—also experienced the quake.
Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage.
