The 9th of Muharram is being observed across Pakistan today with deep religious reverence and solemnity. Processions and gatherings are being held in various cities to commemorate the sacrifices made in the Battle of Karbala, amid strict security measures and public safety protocols.

According to official sources, mobile phone services have been suspended in areas surrounding procession routes as a precautionary measure. In Lahore, the central 9th Muharram procession set off from Pando Street in Islampura and will proceed to Khaima-e-Sadaat. All markets and commercial activities along the route remain closed for the day to ensure the smooth passage of the procession.

Authorities have implemented comprehensive security arrangements along the designated route. The entire procession is being closely monitored in real-time through the Safe City surveillance system. After reaching Khaima-e-Sadaat, the participants will return to the starting point at Pando Street.

In Islamabad, the central mourning procession commenced from the Imam Bargah Asna Ashri and will return to the same location after passing through its traditional route. To maintain law and order, over 3,000 personnel from the District Police, Special Branch, and Islamabad Traffic Police have been deployed. A special traffic diversion and control plan has also been introduced by the Islamabad Traffic Police to facilitate the participants and manage city traffic.

In South Punjab, the central 9th Muharram procession—considered one of the most sensitive in the region—began from Imambargah Mumtazabad. Law enforcement agencies have enforced stringent security protocols and are maintaining close surveillance along all procession routes.

The nation continues to mark the day in remembrance of the martyrs of Karbala, with unity, devotion, and a renewed commitment to peace and security.
