Following India’s missile attacks under “Operation Sindoor,” Pakistan has issued a strong military response and emphasized public safety measures as tensions escalate. Citizens in high-risk regions, including Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and others, are urged to stay alert, calm, and prepared.
What is ‘Operation Sindoor’?
On Tuesday night, India launched missile strikes targeting nine sites in Pakistan and AJK. India claimed the attacks were aimed at “terrorist infrastructure,” but Pakistan condemned the strikes as a deliberate attempt to target civilian areas, not military facilities.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) successfully intercepted Indian jets, preventing airspace violations. However, missiles fired from across the border struck several areas, including:
-
Masjid Sobhanullah in Bahawalpur
-
Bilal Shawai Mosque and Shawai Pachgran in Muzaffarabad
-
Kotli in AJK
-
Neelum Valley, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad
Over 29 civilians have been injured, including many women and children. Hospitals in key areas like Bahawalpur and Multan have been placed on high alert.
Pakistan’s Military Response
In retaliation, Pakistan’s armed forces have destroyed several Indian military positions, particularly in the Bidaniyal Sector along the Line of Control (LoC). Sources report that at least five Indian fighter jets, including Rafales, were shot down. Ongoing operations are targeting Indian posts in Jura, Athmuqam, and Neelum Valley.
Public Safety Guidelines:
In the wake of these escalating tensions, citizens are urged to follow these safety measures:
-
Stay Indoors: Avoid travel in high-risk areas, particularly near border zones or sensitive installations. Seek shelter in bomb-proof rooms if you live near the LoC.
-
Emergency Preparedness: Keep an emergency bag with essentials like CNIC copies, water, dry food, first aid, flashlights, necessary medications, and a phone charger.
-
Observe Lights-Out Protocol: To avoid becoming a target, residents of Sialkot and Kot Momin are advised to turn off lights at night.
-
Cooperate with Rescue Teams: Hospitals in Punjab are on high alert. If injured, contact Rescue 1122 or reach out to the nearest hospital.
-
Psychological Support: In times of stress, parents should keep children indoors and avoid distressing content. Seek telehealth counselling if needed.
-
Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately report any suspicious movement or drones to the local police or Army checkpoints.
-
Identify Safe Shelters: Know the nearest bomb shelters or identify a safe area in your home away from windows and external walls.
-
Establish a Communication Plan: Ensure family members know how to contact each other and where to meet in case of separation.
-
Digital Preparedness: Keep devices charged and have a backup power source. Download apps that provide real-time alerts and safety information.
Public Advisory on Security
In times of conflict, responsible behavior is crucial. Citizens are urged not to post images or videos of military movements on social media, as this could compromise national security.
A Nation United
While India claims Operation Sindoor was a calculated military strike, the reality on the ground reveals significant civilian damage and aggression without provocation. The Pakistan Armed Forces are on full alert, and the PAF is prepared to protect national airspace. The priority remains ensuring public safety, maintaining national unity, and responding to aggression with strength and resolve.
As tensions rise, it is essential for all civilians to remain vigilant, prepared, and calm, ensuring the collective safety and security of the nation.
