KARACHI (RNN TV) — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) issued an advisory for passengers on Thursday as flight operations were disrupted due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The airline confirmed that security concerns have affected operations at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

A PIA spokesperson stated that temporary restrictions on several air routes have resulted in flight diversions and delays to ensure passenger safety and protect airline assets. The airline clarified that these measures are precautionary.

“Some air corridors have been restricted as a safety measure,” the spokesperson said. “Alternative arrangements, including accommodation and assistance, are being provided to passengers of diverted flights.”

PIA advised travelers to check the status of their flights with the airline before arriving at the airport to avoid any inconvenience.

Tensions Escalate Between India and Pakistan:

The flight disruptions come amid heightened military tensions following an escalation between the two countries. On May 7, Pakistan’s military downed five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets and a combat drone, while also destroying a brigade headquarters and several checkposts along the Line of Control (LoC). This action followed Indian missile strikes in the cities of Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, condemned the missile attacks, describing them as “cowardly” and targeting civilian areas. He warned that these provocative actions would not go unpunished.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that Indian media had acknowledged the crash of three Indian aircraft in Indian-occupied Kashmir, further escalating tensions between the two nations.

As both countries maintain heightened military readiness, the situation remains volatile.
