RAWALPINDI (RNN TV) —  Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Azerbaijani Minister of Defence, Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar Oglu, on Wednesday in the city of Lachin, Azerbaijan.

According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, regional security dynamics, and measures to further strengthen defence collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Field Marshal Munir commended the enduring ties between the two countries, describing them as brotherly and strategic. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The army chief is accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit. The high-level delegation also includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Lachin as part of his five-day regional tour, aimed at addressing rising tensions and enhancing diplomatic ties following recent military escalation triggered by unprovoked Indian aggression.

A day earlier, the prime minister met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s unwavering support during the recent standoff with India, which began after missile strikes from New Delhi. He also acknowledged the Azerbaijani people’s public demonstrations of solidarity and recalled their celebrations following Pakistan’s victory in the four-day conflict with India.

During the talks, both leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral relations and voiced satisfaction over the growing cooperation in political, economic, defence, and cultural sectors. They agreed to promote mutual investment, with Azerbaijan expressing readiness to send delegations for talks aimed at boosting economic engagement with Pakistan.
