LONDON (RNN TV) — Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is reportedly set to get engaged in Lahore to the granddaughter of one of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s close relatives, strengthening ties within the Sharif family circle.
According to multiple family sources who spoke to Geo News, the match has been finalized with the daughter of Usman Javed, whose father Javed Shafi is a first cousin of Nawaz Sharif. The families recently gathered at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Model Town, Lahore, to formalize the engagement arrangements.
“The proposal has been accepted, and the engagement ceremony will take place soon. Dates for the nikah and other festivities are being planned by both families,” said one insider familiar with the discussions.
This engagement will mark Junaid Safdar’s second marriage. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based businessman Saifur Rehman Khan. Their wedding was held in London in 2021 while Nawaz Sharif was in exile. The couple mutually divorced in October 2023, after which Junaid returned to Pakistan to support his mother’s political career.
Junaid, a highly educated individual, holds multiple degrees from some of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious institutions. He completed a master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020, followed by a master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL). He also earned a first-class honours bachelor’s degree in Politics from Durham University and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022.
Apart from academics, Junaid is passionate about polo and has represented British universities in several polo competitions, securing multiple wins.
The upcoming engagement signals a closer consolidation within the Sharif family at a time when the political landscape in Pakistan remains turbulent.
