The decomposing body of a woman, believed to be model and actress Humaira Asghar, was discovered on Tuesday in a flat located in the Ittehad Commercial area of DHA Phase 6, Karachi.

According to police officials, the woman had been living alone in the apartment since 2018. However, she reportedly stopped paying rent in 2024, prompting the landlord to file a legal case with the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC).

A court-appointed bailiff arrived at the flat to implement eviction orders and discovered the woman’s body, which appeared to be several days old. Rescue teams later shifted the remains to Jinnah Hospital, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Residents in the area identified the deceased as Humaira Asghar, a model and actress who had kept a low public profile in recent years. Due to the body’s advanced state of decomposition, authorities have requested DNA testing to confirm the identity.

Police recovered a mobile phone registered under Humaira Asghar’s name and a magazine featuring her photographs from the apartment. Later, investigators also recovered her national identity card, further supporting the identification.

SSP South confirmed that, so far, there is no evidence suggesting foul play, and the case is being treated as a possible natural death pending forensic and postmortem results. “The flat has been sealed, and investigation is ongoing,” the SSP added.

Police revealed that the discovery came amid an ongoing landlord-tenant dispute. The landlord had approached the court to seek eviction over non-payment of rent, and the bailiff found the body while executing court orders. Following the grim discovery, the bailiff re-sealed the property, and further proceedings await the court’s direction, expected tomorrow.

As of now, no close relatives have come forward to claim the body.
