LONDON (RNN TV) — London Mayor Sadiq Khan has lauded renowned Pakistani Qawwali maestro and Bollywood playback singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as a “legend” and a “genius,” applauding his music for bridging cultures and resonating across generations.

Speaking at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, where Rahat performed during the 90th birthday celebration of British-Pakistani business tycoon Sir Anwar Pervez, the mayor praised Rahat’s global influence and unmatched artistry. “Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a legend. I listen to his songs regularly. His performance at the Royal Albert Hall alongside leading Western musicians is a testament to his immense talent,” said Sadiq Khan.

He added that Rahat has played a powerful role in uniting people through his music, describing him as “a bridge between cultures and generations.”

The high-profile event celebrated the life and achievements of Sir Anwar Pervez, founder of the Bestway Group, and drew nearly 1,000 distinguished guests, including over 100 attendees from Pakistan. Among them were former UK Prime Minister David Cameron — who delivered a keynote speech — and numerous former Tory ministers, business leaders, and cultural figures.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, speaking to Geo News, shared his appreciation for the occasion and the audience. “London is like a second home. It’s truly humbling to be here performing for Sir Anwar’s remarkable milestone, with David Cameron, Sadiq Khan, and so many notable personalities in attendance,” he said.

The performance marked Rahat’s return to the UK after three months. Earlier this year in April, he was invited by Vijay Bhola, founder of Rock On Music and a prominent promoter of South Asian arts, for a series of three sold-out concerts across the country.

The Royal Albert Hall event not only honoured Sir Anwar’s legacy but also showcased the unifying power of music, with Rahat’s performance standing out as the cultural centerpiece of the evening.
