ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Mr. Ousmane Diagana, Regional Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAAP) at the World Bank, in Islamabad today.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt gratitude to the World Bank for its longstanding partnership with Pakistan. He expressed special thanks to World Bank President Mr. Ajay Banga and former Country Director for Pakistan Mr. Najy Benhassine for their pivotal roles in advancing the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF).
Prime Minister Sharif lauded the strategic importance of the CPF in supporting Pakistan’s development priorities, particularly in the sectors of energy, human capital, climate change, and governance reforms. He emphasized that this framework aligns with the country’s vision for sustainable and inclusive growth.
Highlighting Pakistan’s principled position on regional water issues, the Prime Minister appreciated the World Bank’s support regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He condemned India’s unilateral and unlawful actions that undermine this crucial international agreement. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upholding international law, fostering regional peace, and resolving disputes through dialogue.
Prime Minister Sharif also acknowledged the World Bank’s timely and generous assistance during the devastating floods of 2022, which enabled Pakistan to launch immediate relief efforts and initiate reconstruction and rehabilitation programs.
Mr. Ousmane Diagana expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm hospitality during his visit and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Pakistan. He appreciated the country’s ongoing macroeconomic recovery and praised the government’s efforts to steer the economy towards financial stability and sustainable development.
He especially commended the current administration’s reform agenda, highlighting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership in driving institutional reforms, restoring investor confidence, and promoting inclusive economic growth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reiterated their shared commitment to deepening cooperation in the years ahead to achieve Pakistan’s long-term development goals and to build a prosperous future for its people.
