ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday (August 2) for a two-day state visit, according to the Foreign Office.
The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and marks President Pezeshkian’s first official trip to Pakistan since assuming office.
A statement from the Foreign Office on Friday confirmed that President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior cabinet members, and top officials.
During his stay, the Iranian president is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold formal talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The discussions will include delegation-level meetings focused on strengthening bilateral ties.
According to Mehdi Sanai, Political Adviser to the Iranian President, the agenda for the visit includes engagements with cultural and business leaders, reflecting the broader scope of Pakistan-Iran relations. In a post on social media platform X dated July 30, Sanai emphasized the multidimensional nature of the two countries’ relationship—spanning political, economic, religious, and cultural sectors.
The visit aims to enhance cross-border and provincial cooperation and boost bilateral trade, with a target of surpassing the current $3 billion volume.
This will be the second time in two years that an Iranian president has visited Pakistan. In April 2024, the late President Ebrahim Raisi undertook a three-day visit, just weeks before his untimely death in a helicopter crash.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also visited Iran twice in 2024. In May, he held high-level meetings in Tehran with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and then-President Raisi, focusing on regional cooperation, trade, and peace-building efforts amid escalating tensions with India. The Prime Minister also attended Raisi’s memorial ceremony later that month.
President Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit is widely seen as an opportunity to further deepen the longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations and expand collaboration in key strategic areas.
