Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During the meeting, COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and reiterated the commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. He also congratulated the Azerbaijani leadership on the successful peace agreement with Armenia.

Colonel General Valiyev lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and praised their successes in Maarka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He also conveyed best wishes from the Azerbaijani leadership for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and Victory Day celebrations.

On behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Valiyev conferred the Patriotic War Medal on COAS Asim Munir in recognition of his significant role in advancing military cooperation between the two nations. The Azerbaijani side also appreciated Pakistan’s consistent efforts in combating terrorism and expressed a desire to expand defence and security collaboration.

COAS Asim Munir thanked Azerbaijan for its support during Maarka-e-Haq and for sending an Azerbaijani contingent to participate in Pakistan’s Independence Day parade. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to furthering defence ties and promoting peace and stability in the region.

Earlier, upon his arrival at GHQ, Colonel General Valiyev was given a ceremonial guard of honour and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada to honour Pakistan’s martyrs.
