LAHORE (Web Desk) — A ceremony was held at Lahore Gymkhana Club to honour Arshad Ansari, Secretary General of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and President of Lahore Press Club, for being conferred with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.

The event was hosted by senior journalist Syed Shakir Ali Shah and attended by Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) President Naeem Hanif, General Secretary Qamaruz Zaman Bhatti, Senior Vice President Yousaf Raza Abbasi, Joint Secretary Mudassar Hussain Tatla, Punjab Assembly Press Gallery President Khawaja Nasir, Lahore Press Club Joint Secretary Imran Sheikh, Finance Secretary Salik Nawaz, Crime Reporters Association Secretary Ahmed Faraz, LPC Governing Body members Rana Shehzad, Naila Nadeem, Zaheer Shehzad, Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmed Arain, Sajid Khan, Syed Ahsan Raza, Qaiser Abbas, Dr Basharat Aslam, Salahuddin Butt, Afzal Ayubi, Jamal Ahmed, Riaz Bhatti, Shehzad Malik, Muhammad Qaiser and others.

Speakers congratulated Arshad Ansari on being nominated for the state award, describing the honour as recognition of the entire journalist community. PUJ President Naeem Hanif and General Secretary Qamaruz Zaman Bhatti said Ansari had become a “source of pride for journalists,” and his nomination was, in fact, a collective achievement for the media fraternity.

In his remarks, host Syed Shakir Ali Shah lauded Mr Ansari’s services for the journalist community, stating that his dedication to PFUJ and the Lahore Press Club inspired many to join hands with him in serving the profession.

Arshad Ansari, while addressing the gathering, dedicated the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz to the journalist community at large. He announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate Phase-II of the Lahore Press Club in September.

He highlighted the achievements of his tenure, including the allotment of Journalist Colony Phase-I and F-Block, completion of F-Block development works, provision of electricity, and the establishment of a Rs1 billion endowment fund for journalists’ welfare.

Mr Ansari added that PFUJ would continue its welfare initiatives and would launch annual awards to recognise the services of journalists across the country.
