MUMBAI (Web Desk) — Veteran Bollywood actor Satish Shah passed away at the age of 74 in Mumbai following a prolonged battle with kidney disease, Indian media reported on Saturday.

According to reports, Shah was admitted to a local hospital after his condition worsened at home. Despite medical efforts, he could not recover. His final rites are scheduled to take place in Mumbai on Sunday.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit was the first to confirm the news, sharing a photo of the late actor along with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and great actor Satish Shah has passed away a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital where he breathed his last,” Pandit wrote.

In a video message, Pandit further said, “Our friend and a great actor, Satish Shah, passed away due to kidney failure. He suddenly fell ill at home and was taken to Hinduja Hospital, Shivaji Park, where he breathed his last. His body will be brought to his Bandra residence. Satish Shah began his acting career in the 1970s and gained widespread recognition with the 1983 cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, which established him as one of Indian cinema’s most talented and versatile comic actors.

Over his decades-long career, he appeared alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Govinda, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Saif Ali Khan.

On television, Shah made history with the iconic sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, in which he portrayed 55 different characters across 55 episodes — a feat unmatched in Indian TV history.
