The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ramped up its efforts to combat tax evasion by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against internationally renowned fashion designer Nomi Ansari, accusing him of committing a sales tax fraud worth Rs1.25 billion.
Sources reveal that the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) in Karachi filed the FIR after an initial investigation uncovered significant evidence of tax fraud. Authorities are reportedly anticipating his arrest upon his return to Pakistan, after which he will be presented before the Customs and Taxation Court.
FBR officials carried out raids at Ansari’s factory and key outlets in Mehran Town, Korangi, and DHA, securing relevant records and documents with search warrants issued by a magistrate.
This marks the second major action taken against Ansari. Earlier in February, the CTO Karachi had sealed his factory and several outlets due to violations of sales tax regulations and non-compliance with point-of-sale (POS) integration requirements.
A formal tax demand order has now been issued against him. The FBR confirmed that this crackdown is part of broader enforcement measures directed to field formations nationwide.
