Peshawar (RNN TV) — Ali Amin Gandapur Resigns as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Imran Khan’s Directive — Sohail Afridi Named Successor
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has officially announced his resignation from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, stating that he is stepping down on the directive of PTI founder Imran Khan.
In a statement, Gandapur said, “I am resigning from the position of Chief Minister on the instructions of our party founder. We will move forward united for his release and for PTI’s policies.” He added that Sohail Afridi, who has been nominated as the new Chief Minister, would have his complete support.
Earlier, PTI’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed the leadership’s decision to replace Gandapur, explaining that the move came in light of the worsening security situation in KP. He noted that the province needed a new direction and alignment away from federal government policies that, he said, had proven ineffective.
Who is Sohail Afridi?
Sohail Afridi, a first-time MPA from PK-70, Khyber district, has been a long-time PTI member and previously served as Special Assistant for Communication and Works, later as Minister for Higher Education. He also headed the Insaf Students Federation (ISF) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is part of the PTI Central Executive Committee.
The transition marks a significant shift in KP’s political landscape as PTI leadership seeks a “new beginning” under Afridi’s leadership amid ongoing challenges of security and governance in the province.
