ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday to seek guidance ahead of a diplomatic mission aimed at representing Pakistan’s position in major global capitals.
The initiative comes in the aftermath of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, following a deadly terrorist attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Bilawal, accompanied by senior PPP leaders including Senator Sherry Rehman and former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, thanked the premier for entrusting him with this critical task. The meeting was held in Islamabad and attended by top government officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Climate Change Minister Musaddiq Malik, Advisor Rana Sanaullah, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Speaking after the meeting, Bilawal shared his sentiments on social media platform X, writing, “I was contacted earlier today by Prime Minister Shehbaz, who requested that I lead a delegation to present Pakistan’s case for peace on the international stage. I am honoured to accept this responsibility and remain committed to serving Pakistan in these challenging times.”
The high-level delegation, which includes Musaddiq Malik, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Faisal Sabzwari, Tehmina Janjua, and Jalil Abbas Jilani, will travel to Washington, London, Brussels, and Paris. Their mission: to advocate for Pakistan’s narrative on regional peace, expose Indian aggression, and counter its provocative agenda.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed full confidence in the delegation’s ability to effectively represent Pakistan. “I hope that under your leadership, this team will present Pakistan’s stance clearly and persuasively to the international community,” the PM stated during the meeting.
The diplomatic outreach follows the recent conflict sparked by a terrorist incident in IIOJK that killed 26 tourists. India swiftly blamed Pakistan without providing evidence, escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos”, a large-scale retaliatory campaign targeting Indian military sites. The Pakistan Armed Forces reportedly downed six Indian jets, including three Rafale aircraft, and neutralized dozens of drones. The hostilities ended on May 10 with a ceasefire brokered by the United States.
According to Pakistan’s military, 53 lives were lost during the confrontation—13 from the armed forces and 40 civilians—as a result of Indian strikes.
As the diplomatic mission sets out, Islamabad is positioning itself to engage the international community with renewed clarity and unity, hoping to shift the global narrative towards peace and justice in South Asia.
