Kuala Lumpur (RNN TV) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that while the military ceasefire between Pakistan and India remains intact, India’s political leadership is finding it difficult to come to terms with its recent military setback.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, Dar remarked, “The Pakistan-India military ceasefire is holding, but India’s political elite is unable to accept the outcome.”

His comments come following a four-day military conflict in May — the most intense between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in decades — involving missiles, drones, and heavy artillery. The fighting ended in a ceasefire, reportedly brokered after U.S. intervention.

Dar highlighted that Pakistan responded decisively to Indian aggression through Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, a retaliatory campaign that targeted multiple Indian military sites across different regions. He claimed that the Pakistan Air Force downed six Indian aircraft, including four Rafale jets, during the conflict.

He also alleged that India deliberately struck areas with large Sikh populations during the hostilities — an act he said raised serious humanitarian concerns.

The ceasefire was publicly announced by U.S. President Donald Trump via social media, who claimed credit for facilitating the truce through diplomatic pressure, including threats to suspend trade negotiations with India. However, New Delhi has pushed back against Washington’s portrayal of events, disputing Trump’s version.

While in Kuala Lumpur for the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting, Dar strongly criticized India for unilaterally suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, calling the move “bizarre and unacceptable.” He asserted, “India cannot block or divert Pakistan’s water. Its aggressive posture is increasingly isolating it on the global stage.”

Turning to Pakistan’s domestic outlook, Dar said the country had achieved an economic “take-off” despite challenging conditions and reiterated the government’s goal of securing a place in the G20 group of nations.

Earlier in the day, Dar met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting. He conveyed warm wishes from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to deepening economic and diplomatic ties with Malaysia.

Dar praised Malaysia’s effective leadership as ASEAN Chair for 2025 and thanked Prime Minister Ibrahim for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements during the forum. He also welcomed Malaysia’s initiatives to enhance bilateral trade and investment, following Prime Minister Anwar’s visit to Pakistan in October last year.

In response, Prime Minister Ibrahim expressed his appreciation and said he looked forward to hosting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later this year in October.
