China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan Following Pahalgam Attack Amid Rising Tensions with India
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a statement reaffirming Beijing’s support for Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, which left 26 tourists dead in occupied Kashmir four days ago.
The statement emphasized China’s understanding of Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and strongly backed Islamabad’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and security interests. China also called for a fair and timely investigation into the tragic attack and highlighted the need for impartiality in the probe.
China urged both Pakistan and India to exercise patience and engage in dialogue to resolve their outstanding issues, stressing the importance of diplomacy for regional peace. The Chinese Foreign Ministry also called for restraint and warned that continued tensions could harm regional stability.
Earlier, in a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed solidarity with Pakistan. Wang stressed that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility of the international community. Mr. Dar briefed Wang on the situation following the Pahalgam attack, reiterating Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism and its commitment to preventing further escalation.
Following the attack, Indian media outlets leveled accusations against Pakistan, without providing evidence, which Islamabad firmly denied. Pakistan called for a transparent investigation and condemned India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, accusing it of provocative actions. In response, Pakistan announced countermeasures, including the closure of its airspace to Indian aircraft.
The Chinese Foreign Minister expressed concern that ongoing hostilities between Pakistan and India would not benefit either nation and could destabilize the region. He urged both countries to engage in dialogue and seek peaceful resolutions through diplomatic means.
“Supporting Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts is part of China’s broader commitment to regional peace and stability,” Wang said, reaffirming China’s support for Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and territorial integrity.
“The Pahalgam incident is a complete lie, just like nothing substantial came out of Pulwama,” Asif said, adding that Pakistan is confident in international forums and ready for a transparent inquiry.
Pakistan has also expressed openness to foreign mediation to help de-escalate the rising tensions with India, stressing the need for a peaceful resolution to avoid further conflict in South Asia.
