RAWALPINDI (RNN TV) — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Thursday paid heartfelt tribute to the nation’s martyrs, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country.
“Shuhada and Ghazis are our eternal pride. Their honour and respect are a sacred responsibility for every Pakistani,” Gen Munir said while addressing an investiture ceremony at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The ceremony, attended by senior military officials and families of the awardees, saw the army chief bestow honours upon officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army in recognition of their extraordinary bravery in operations and outstanding service to the nation.

The honours conferred during the ceremony included the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat. Medals awarded posthumously were received with deep respect by the families of the shuhada.
“The peace and freedom we enjoy today are built on the ultimate sacrifices of these brave sons of the soil,” said the Chief of Army Staff, paying heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes.
He also expressed deep admiration for the strength and perseverance of the martyrs’ families, acknowledging their unmatched sacrifices in the service of the nation.
Commending the unwavering commitment of the Pakistan Army and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir praised their tireless efforts in neutralising high-value terrorist operatives and foiling multiple threats as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations.
His remarks come at a time when Pakistan is grappling with a sharp increase in terrorist activity, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan—two provinces bordering Afghanistan—which continue to bear the brunt of violence.
According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), KP and Balochistan remain the most affected regions, accounting for 98% of all fatalities so far this year. The report highlights the growing boldness of militant groups, whose tactics are becoming more sophisticated, including the unprecedented hijacking of the Jaffar Express. If current trends persist, projections suggest the death toll could surpass 3,600 by the end of 2025, potentially making it one of the most violent years in Pakistan’s recent history.
In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Pakistan recorded 897 deaths and 542 injuries linked to violence involving civilians, security forces, and militants. The 354 reported incidents—including terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations—resulted in a total of 1,439 casualties. While this represents a nearly 13% decrease from Q4 2024, which saw 1,028 fatalities, the threat level remains deeply concerning.
Earlier this week, while addressing a convention of overseas Pakistanis, Gen Munir reaffirmed the nation’s resilience, declaring that “even ten generations of terrorists cannot harm Balochistan or Pakistan.”
Out of the total fatalities in Q1 2025, 495 were militants, while 402 were civilians and security personnel—reflecting nearly 19% fewer losses compared to the outlaws. The combined losses of civilians and security forces constituted about 45% of all deaths during the quarter, while militant fatalities made up over 55% of the total.
