Washington, D.C. (RNN TV) — Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is set to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump today during his official visit to the United States, according to senior security sources.

The high-level meeting, scheduled for 10 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST), will take place in the White House Cabinet Room, as per the public schedule released by the Office of the President. The engagement marks a significant moment in U.S.-Pakistan relations and is expected to cover regional security, counterterrorism, and diplomatic cooperation.

Munir, who arrived in Washington earlier this week, met with members of the Pakistani diaspora on Tuesday. According to Pakistan’s military media wing, ISPR, the army chief praised the contributions of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the country’s economy and image abroad through remittances, investments, and accomplishments in various fields.

This visit comes against the backdrop of heightened regional tensions and follows the recent U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Pakistan and India after a deadly flare-up in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict, which erupted following the Pahalgam attack, led to 87 hours of cross-border hostilities, resulting in the deaths of 40 Pakistani civilians and 13 military personnel.

In response to Indian aggression, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, downing six Indian jets—including three Rafale aircraft. The intense skirmishes between the nuclear-armed neighbors ended on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement facilitated by the Trump administration.

Field Marshal Munir’s visit also reflects Pakistan’s broader diplomatic outreach to counter New Delhi’s narrative on the Kashmir dispute. Former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is currently leading a nine-member parliamentary delegation to multiple countries, advocating Pakistan’s position on the recent conflict.

Apart from Kashmir, counterterrorism remains a central theme in the U.S.-Pakistan partnership. Recently, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Chief General Michael Kurilla lauded Pakistan as a “phenomenal partner” in global anti-terrorism efforts. His comments, made during a congressional hearing, emphasized Pakistan’s role in dismantling Daesh-Khorasan networks and other militant groups.

General Kurilla’s praise was echoed by President Trump, who earlier commended Pakistan for capturing and extraditing a Daesh operative responsible for the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing at Kabul Airport—an attack that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members and nearly 170 Afghan civilians during the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The timing of Munir’s meeting with Trump is also significant amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, sparked by a deadly exchange of strikes between the two adversaries.

The meeting is expected to reaffirm bilateral cooperation and signal Pakistan’s intent to maintain balanced relations with both the West and regional allies.
