Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday unveiled a comprehensive financial assistance package to support families whose homes and livelihoods were devastated by the recent floods across the province, ARY News reported.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of electric buses in Sargodha, the chief minister announced that each family whose house was completely destroyed will receive Rs1 million in compensation, while families with partially damaged homes will be provided Rs500,000 for reconstruction and repairs.

She further stated that those who lost livestock in the disaster will also be compensated, with financial assistance ranging between Rs200,000 and Rs500,000. According to her, the disbursement of cheques will begin within the next five days.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted the extent of the calamity, noting that the floods ravaged 27 cities and over 5,000 villages. She stressed that prompt action by the Punjab government prevented an even greater loss of life.

So far, relief operations have ensured the safe evacuation of 2.5 million people to secure locations, where they have been provided with food and essential supplies. The chief minister emphasized that not only were lives saved, but efforts were also made to move livestock to safer areas in order to protect people’s sources of livelihood.

Pakistan is currently grappling with one of the worst flood disasters in its history. Relentless monsoon rains, glacial lake outbursts, and flash floods have caused widespread devastation in 2025, claiming over 800 lives and impacting more than 1.2 million people nationwide. Economic damages are estimated to reach nearly $50 billion.

Earlier in August, Maryam Nawaz praised the tireless work of the provincial administration, rescue services, and the Pakistan Army, describing the ongoing operations as the largest rescue mission in Pakistan’s history. She revealed that more than 600,000 people and 450,000 animals have already been moved to safer areas as part of the coordinated relief response, including in regions affected by water releases from India.
