Bharatpur, Rajasthan (Web Desk) — An FIR has been lodged against Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, along with six officials from Hyundai, in connection with an alleged fraud case involving a defective vehicle.
According to Indian media, the complaint, filed by Kirti Singh, a resident of Bharatpur, alleges that her Hyundai car developed technical issues from the very first day of purchase. Despite repeated complaints, Singh claims the company failed to resolve the problems.
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, who serve as brand ambassadors for Hyundai, were named in the FIR. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, endorsers can be held accountable if the products they promote are found to be misleading or defective. The Act empowers the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to impose penalties on celebrities for false or deceptive endorsements.
Singh stated that her decision to buy the car was influenced by advertisements featuring the two actors.
Initially filed as a private complaint in the CJM Court No. 2, Bharatpur, the matter was forwarded to Mathura Gate Police Station with directions to register an FIR. Following the court’s order, a case has been filed under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and other applicable sections.
