Lahore (RNN TV) — An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday announced its reserved verdicts in two May 9 arson cases, delivering mixed outcomes for senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders. The proceedings were held inside Kot Lakhpat Jail under strict security.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul acquitted PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in both cases — related to arson incidents outside Rahat Bakery and at Shadman Police Station.
However, the court handed down 10-year prison terms each to senior leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed. Former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Ayesha Bhutta, Sanam Javed, and Aliya Hamza were also convicted, with Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza receiving five-year sentences each.
The cases stem from violent protests that erupted on May 9 following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, during which multiple public and private properties were attacked and set ablaze.
The verdicts add to the mounting legal troubles for PTI leadership, with several party figures already serving prison terms in connection with May 9 violence cases.
