KARACHI (RNN TV) — Karachi Kings secured a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi in a dramatic encounter at the National Bank Stadium on Monday night, with Khushdil Shah’s composed 23 not out off 17 balls leading his team to a thrilling finish.
Chasing 148 on a tricky pitch with low bounce, Karachi was left struggling at 133-8, needing 15 off 12 balls. Khushdil’s calm assault in the final overs, including three fours, turned the game in Kings’ favor after a gritty 60-run knock by captain David Warner earlier in the innings. Warner’s maiden PSL fifty came off 47 balls, including eight fours, helping the team recover from early setbacks.
The win, the last match of the season in Karachi, kept Kings’ playoff hopes alive. The match, marked by tense moments, saw Warner steady the ship before Luke Wood’s back-of-the-hand slower ball cleaned him up in the 17th over. With 29 required off 21 balls, quick wickets from Abbas Afridi and Aamer Jamal left Khushdil to deal with the pressure.
Khushdil kept the chase alive, nurdling singles off Ali, and then launched into Hussain Talat in the final over. A hammering four past backward point followed by a single set the stage for Hasan Ali’s exquisite pull shot, sealing the victory and sparking wild celebrations from the crowd.
Earlier, Zalmi posted 147-8 after being put into bat, with Kings’ bowlers maintaining a tight grip throughout. Mir Hamza set the tone with an outstanding spell (1-14), while Khushdil (3-20) and Abbas (3-30) were key in dismantling Zalmi’s lineup. Babar Azam anchored the innings with 46 runs off 41 balls, but Khushdil’s spin and Abbas’ slower balls halted Zalmi’s progress.
A late flurry from Alzarri Joseph (24 not out off 13) took Zalmi close to 150, but the Kings’ bowlers held their nerve to restrict them to a manageable total. Despite the chase being challenging, Khushdil’s brilliance in the final moments ensured Karachi’s victory, with Hasan Ali’s pull shot sealing the win.
