KARACHI (RNN TV) — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a heatwave in Karachi from April 20 to 23 (Sunday to Wednesday), urging residents to take precautions as temperatures are expected to soar.
According to the Met Office, daytime temperatures may rise up to 40°C, with nights also remaining unusually warm. Sea breezes are likely to halt starting Sunday, which could lead to a noticeable spike in heat levels.
Authorities have advised citizens to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and avoid direct sunlight during peak hours to stay safe during the heatwave.
NDMA Issues High Alert for Northwestern Pakistan
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high-alert weather advisory for parts of northwestern Pakistan, warning of severe weather conditions expected within the next 12 hours.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), a strong weather system is likely to hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms. Affected areas include:
-
Malakand & Hazara Divisions
-
Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera
-
Kohat, Khyber, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat
-
Kurram, Orakzai, and Waziristan
Officials have warned of potential flash floods, landslides, and damage to infrastructure, power lines, and standing crops. Mountainous and low-lying areas are especially at risk.
Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors, avoid non-essential travel—especially in landslide-prone areas like Hazara and Malakand—and monitor updates on road conditions due to potential closures caused by heavy rains.
