The legal team of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Saturday approached the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) to request suspension of proceedings in the May 9 GHQ attack case.
The petition urged the court to halt the trial being conducted through video link until the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench delivers its decision on the matter. Khan’s lawyers maintained that continuing hearings virtually before the ruling would be premature and sought additional time to examine the legal implications.
Government stance
Opposing the plea, the state’s lawyer pointed out that Khan’s legal team had already filed two petitions challenging the video-link system. The government counsel argued that the repeated objections were an attempt to drag out the trial.
Court proceedings
After hearing both sides, the ATC directed lawyers to present detailed arguments on the request. The court will now decide whether the trial should remain paused until the higher court issues its verdict.
