RAWALPINDI (RNN TV) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, on Tuesday raised serious concerns over his safety in prison, claiming that his life was under threat. She announced that the matter would soon be taken to the Supreme Court.

Speaking to media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, Aleema alleged that both Imran Khan and her nephew were being held in “unlawful detention.” “Our brother and nephew are being detained unlawfully,” she said, emphasizing that the family’s focus remained on the release of innocent prisoners.

Aleema claimed that Imran Khan was being kept in solitary confinement and denied access to television and newspapers — a violation of basic rights, she said. “The jail superintendent is lying — my brother does not lie,” she asserted.

She further alleged that pressure was being mounted on Imran Khan by targeting his wife, Bushra Bibi. “Efforts are being made to break the PTI founder by taking action against Bushra Bibi,” she said, accusing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of directing the campaign. “Maryam Nawaz has sent this superintendent to carry out injustice.”

Quoting her brother’s message from prison, Aleema said: “The founder of PTI says he is willing to hold talks for the nation’s sake, not for any personal gain.” She added that Imran had urged party members to “end personal feuds and launch a movement.”

Aleema urged PTI leaders to raise their voices over the former prime minister’s difficult conditions. “The PTI founder is in a challenging situation — the party must speak up,” she stated.

Calling on the public to act against worsening economic conditions, she said, “We are all victims of inflation; now the people themselves must rise against this system of oppression.”

Following her meeting with Imran Khan earlier in the day, Aleema conveyed his message that basic facilities were being denied to him. “My access to TV and newspapers has been cut off and my rights are being violated,” she quoted him as saying.

She further relayed Imran’s advice to lawmakers to take charge of their political destiny and clarify the basis for any future negotiations. “Just listen to the founder’s cases, and the matter will be resolved,” she said.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 in connection with multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism, following his ouster via a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
