INDIA (RNN TV) — India’s head coach and former BJP Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir, has received a disturbing death threat via email, allegedly from the Islamic State (ISIS). The Delhi Police have launched an investigation into the matter following the chilling email.
According to authorities, the email, with the subject line ‘ISIS’, contained a brief yet menacing message: “I kill you.” Gambhir has filed an official complaint, prompting the Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit to trace the sender and investigate the origins of the threat.
An outspoken critic of terrorism, Gambhir condemned the recent Pahalgam attack on social media, posting: “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
This is not the first time the former cricketer has been targeted. In 2021, Gambhir received a similar threat from a group identifying itself as ISIS Kashmir.
After recently returning from a family trip to France, the 42-year-old Gambhir has remained largely out of the public eye since leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy earlier this year. His current role as India’s head coach has provided him with some respite due to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Gambhir took over as the head coach of the Indian national team in July 2024, succeeding Rahul Dravid. His initial tenure saw mixed results, with defeats including a whitewash at home against New Zealand and a series loss in Australia. However, the Champions Trophy win has since provided a much-needed boost to his coaching tenure.
Police officials have not disclosed additional details, citing the sensitivity of the case, but assured the public that comprehensive security measures have been implemented for Gambhir and his family.
