As clashes intensified between Indian and Pakistani forces, New Delhi faced widespread criticism from experts, veteran journalists, and celebrities over the spread of fake news surrounding the conflict.

The issue came to light during a live broadcast on India’s prominent news channel, NDTV, as the situation between the nuclear-armed neighbors escalated.

In the wake of Pakistan’s military offensive, dubbed “Bunyan-un-Marsoos,” an Indian reporter, speaking via video link, made an unintentional admission during a live broadcast. The reporter, appearing visibly frustrated, confessed to airing inaccurate information under pressure from their superiors.

“First, they say, ‘Give us an update! Give us an update!’ then they air the fake news and ask us why we reported it,” the reporter stated, seemingly upset about the situation.

This incident has sparked renewed discussions about the ethics and responsibility of media coverage during times of conflict. While India has not officially commented on the matter, the revelation has raised questions about the accuracy of news reporting amidst the ongoing clashes.

The reporter concluded his remark with some inappropriate words and seemed to have been unaware that his microphone was switched on.

This admission provides stark evidence of the misinformation being disseminated by the Indian media during a highly sensitive and volatile conflict.
