ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, took oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court, attended by judges, senior lawyers, Attorney Generals, and court staff. Justice Muneeb Akhtar administered the oath.

Justice Shah has been appointed Acting Chief Justice as Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is set to visit China from April 22 to 26. During this time, Justice Shah will carry out the duties of Chief Justice.

According to a statement from the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Afridi will lead a high-level delegation to attend the Conference of Chief Justices of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in China.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed between the Supreme Courts of Pakistan and China. Chief Justice Afridi will also meet with his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the event.

The delegation includes Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Shahid Waheed, District and Sessions Judge Gwadar Zafar Jan, and Senior Civil Judge Lucky Marwat Nadia Gul Wazir. Notably, Justice Shahid Waheed will deliver a speech on the role of artificial intelligence in the judiciary.

After the SCO conference, Chief Justice Afridi will head to Turkey to take part in the 63rd anniversary celebrations of the Constitutional Court.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will continue to serve as Acting Chief Justice until Chief Justice Afridi returns.
