ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) — Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced on Monday that construction on the $2 billion Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) and Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9) will commence this year.

The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by the minister with the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The M-6 project, a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has faced a six-year delay. Recently, a Senate panel directed the NHA to prioritize the M-6 project, halting all other roadworks to focus on its construction. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal also committed to implementing this directive and confirmed that M-6 would be the top priority.

Last month, Iqbal had stated that work on the M-6 and M-9 projects would begin next year and suggested dividing the M-6 project into three phases for quicker execution.

In Monday’s meeting, Minister Khan also highlighted plans to begin work on the Mansehra, Naran, and Kaghan motorways in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, the Quetta-Karachi Highway (N-25) in Balochistan will be upgraded to a four-lane motorway.

The minister further instructed the NHA to submit a detailed plan for an 18-kilometer link road connecting Lahore to Kasur.
