KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA (RNN TV) — PDMA Cancels Weekend Holidays Amid Flash Flood Alert in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR – In response to a flash flood advisory, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has cancelled all Saturday and Sunday holidays for its staff, ensuring full emergency preparedness across the province.

The move comes as a powerful westerly weather system is expected to hit parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting today, bringing heavy rainfall and raising the risk of flash flooding—particularly in low-lying and river-adjacent areas, including those near the Kabul River.

A PDMA spokesperson confirmed that all officers and staff have been directed to remain on duty throughout the weekend to ensure rapid and effective emergency response. The authority’s Emergency Operations Center will remain fully functional on both days to closely monitor the developing weather situation.

“All our efforts are aimed at protecting lives and property,” PDMA stated. “Given the seriousness of the threat, full preparedness is essential, and there will be zero tolerance for delays in response.”

Earlier, PDMA had issued a high alert, urging all relevant departments—including Rescue 1122 and Civil Defense—to remain vigilant and on standby for any potential emergencies caused by flash floods.

The weather system is expected to affect upper regions of the province beginning tonight, significantly increasing the likelihood of flooding in vulnerable areas.
