Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on Saturday for a day-long visit focused on addressing the escalating law and order challenges in Balochistan. His visit marks a significant effort by the federal government to directly engage with provincial stakeholders and community leaders in search of lasting peace and stability.

Upon arrival at Quetta Airport, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Acting Governor Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and other senior provincial officials.

The highlight of the visit is a high-level jirga convened in the provincial capital, bringing together tribal elders, political representatives, provincial ministers, and lawmakers from across the region. The forum is designed to foster dialogue on the deteriorating security landscape, promote stronger coordination among various stakeholders, and identify actionable steps to improve internal stability.

Officials indicated that the Prime Minister would engage in consultations with tribal leaders and local officials not only on security matters but also on development priorities. The goal is to build consensus and secure grassroots support for initiatives aimed at restoring peace and advancing socio-economic growth in the province.

This jirga is part of a broader federal-provincial initiative to involve local communities more deeply in governance and conflict resolution, especially in regions affected by unrest.

In addition to the jirga, PM Shehbaz is expected to visit victims of the recent deadly blast in Sorab, which resulted in multiple casualties. He will meet with the injured and their families to express solidarity and reaffirm the government’s commitment to supporting them through recovery and rehabilitation.

The visit comes amid growing concerns over rising violence in various parts of Balochistan, including attacks on civilians and security personnel. The federal government has reiterated its determination to confront terrorism through coordinated efforts with the provincial administration and active community participation.
