ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in various areas, including trade, culture, and consular services.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed an MoU to promote cultural cooperation between the two countries.

They also signed another MoU to form a joint committee on consular affairs.

In addition, an MoU was exchanged between the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to set up the UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council. The documents were exchanged by UAE Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri and FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh.

Welcoming the UAE delegation, DPM Dar said Pakistan and the UAE shared a strong, long-standing bond based on mutual respect and friendship. He noted that both nations were committed to working for the progress and well-being of their people.

UAE Deputy PM Sheikh Abdullah expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, calling Pakistan a country close to the hearts of the Emirati people. He said both governments are eager to further strengthen their relationship and deepen cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah’s visit to Pakistan follows the trip of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in February. During that visit, the two countries signed five agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as banking, railways, mining, and infrastructure investment.

Pakistan and the UAE share a long history of strong bilateral ties, with numerous Pakistanis living and working in the Gulf nation. Recently, the UAE also began issuing five-year visas to Pakistani nationals, further strengthening their relationship.

Pakistan-Rwanda Bilateral Cooperation

In addition, Pakistan and Rwanda have pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation across trade, defense, technology, and diplomacy. The two countries discussed these ties during talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Rwanda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, who visited Pakistan from April 21-22.

The two ministers signed an MoU in diplomatic training and discussed ways to boost cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, defense, diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges.

DPM Dar highlighted the potential for Pakistani exports in sectors like pharmaceuticals, textiles, rice, surgical instruments, agri-tech, and sports goods in Rwanda. He also emphasized Pakistan’s interest in engaging with Rwandan businesses, particularly at the upcoming Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference and Single Country Exhibition in Addis Ababa in May 2025.

Rwandan Foreign Minister noted that Rwanda’s exports to Pakistan were valued at $26 million, and he expressed interest in exploring joint projects. Pakistan’s exports to Rwanda in sectors like trade, industry, and health are around $100 million.

Both sides also expressed their intent to collaborate more in tourism and sports, especially cricket, which is popular in both countries. Nduhungirehe praised Pakistan’s role in addressing conflicts in Africa, particularly as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
