Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the historic peace agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House Summit, under the patronage of US President Donald Trump.

The accord, aimed at ending decades of hostilities in the South Caucasus, was hailed by the Pakistani premier as a “new era of peace, stability, and cooperation” for the conflict-hit region.

Message of Solidarity from Pakistan

In his statement, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan, describing the agreement as a “manifestation of wisdom and foresight.”

“Pakistan has always stood with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan, and we stand with them on this historic occasion as well,” he said, reaffirming Islamabad’s full support for Baku’s efforts to secure lasting peace and stability.

US Role in Brokering Peace

The prime minister also lauded President Trump’s role in facilitating the agreement, reached after years of strained ties and armed clashes between the two neighbours over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“This agreement will create new opportunities for trade, connectivity, and regional integration,” Shehbaz noted, adding that the US-led diplomacy had opened the door for sustainable cooperation in the Caucasus.

He expressed hope that the spirit of dialogue shown in the peace talks would inspire the resolution of other long-standing global disputes.

Pakistan, he stressed, sees this milestone not only as a diplomatic breakthrough for Azerbaijan and Armenia but also as proof that persistent dialogue and effective international mediation can transform entrenched conflicts into opportunities for progress.
