Multiple explosions were reported in Rawalpindi and Lahore on Friday night amid heightened regional tensions. In Rawalpindi, two blasts were heard, with one occurring near the strategically important Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala. Police swiftly cordoned off the area while rescue teams reached the scene.
According to security sources, an attempted missile strike by India near Nur Khan Airbase was successfully foiled by Pakistani air defense systems.
In an emergency press briefing, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that India launched air-to-ground missiles targeting three Pakistani airbases: Nur Khan in Chaklala, Mureed in Chakwal, and Shorkot.
“All assets of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) remain safe,” Lt Gen Chaudhry assured. “Most of the incoming missiles were intercepted by our air defense system, and those that did hit the ground caused no significant damage.”
He further revealed that India had also launched missiles into Afghanistan, warning that such reckless moves are pushing the region dangerously close to war. “India is escalating tensions and dragging the entire region toward conflict,” the DG ISPR said. “Pakistan is effectively countering all Indian aggression, which clearly reflects India’s growing desperation and paranoia.”
Concluding his remarks, Lt Gen Chaudhry issued a firm warning: “Now you wait for our response.”
