LAHORE (RNN TV) — Authorities arrested a man on Friday in Lahore’s Shah Di Khui area for illegally keeping a lion without a license, following an incident in which the animal attacked a family, injuring three people — including two children.
The lion, which escaped from a farmhouse in Johar Town due to an unsecured enclosure, leapt over a wall and attacked residents in a nearby street before fleeing. The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital for treatment.
The Punjab Wildlife Department responded promptly, seizing the lion and relocating it to a sanctuary. A spokesperson confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the owner, identified as Malik Bahram, son of Malik Nazim, under provisions of the Wildlife Act and attempted murder charges.
According to officials, keeping a lion without a license is a non-bailable offense, punishable by up to seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 5 million. The department urged citizens to report any illegal possession of wild animals by calling Helpline 1107.
