LAHORE (RNN TV) — Security forces in Lahore’s Manawan area shot down an Indian drone on Friday after detecting its movement inside Pakistani territory, police sources confirmed.
According to officials, the drone was immediately targeted and brought down before it could carry out any possible mission. Preliminary inspection suggested it was a surveillance device, as no explosives were found onboard.
The drone has been taken into custody by intelligence agencies, who have launched a detailed investigation into the incursion.
This incident comes just months after the intense Pakistan–India military confrontation in May 2025, which was triggered by an April attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) — an incident New Delhi blamed on Islamabad. The standoff escalated before both sides eventually agreed to a ceasefire.
In retaliation to Indian aggression during that conflict, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, targeting several Indian military sites across multiple regions. The operation resulted in the downing of six Indian fighter jets — including three Rafales — and dozens of drones.
The hostilities lasted 87 hours before a US-brokered ceasefire was announced on May 10. While New Delhi has contested US President Donald Trump’s claims that his intervention and threats to halt trade talks forced the ceasefire, Islamabad has acknowledged his role and even nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his contribution to defusing tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
