Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar on Tuesday downplayed rifts between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), saying any disagreements were “internal matters” and the coalition remained united on the basis of ideology and sincerity.

Speaking in the National Assembly in response to a point of order raised by PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar, the minister said, “If anyone has been hurt by words, we apologise. Politics has its ups and downs, and such exchanges occur. These matters will be settled within the house as our priority is to strengthen democracy and the country.”

Tarar emphasized that the alliance had already produced results “from Saudi Arabia to the United Nations,” crediting it for projecting Pakistan positively abroad. He added that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques had acknowledged the people of Pakistan as guardians of the Haramain Sharifain, which he described as a major honor.

Earlier, Syed Naveed Qamar drew attention to the devastating floods across the country, particularly in his own constituency where entire villages and farmland were submerged. He noted that citizens were in distress and looking to national leaders for immediate relief and rehabilitation.

Citing a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report, Qamar warned that the upcoming Rabi crops were in jeopardy and urgent recovery measures were required. “Speeches alone will not solve the crisis. We must demonstrate compassion for those who depend on us,” he said.

The PPP leader further noted that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had visited flood-hit areas and even acknowledged the Punjab chief minister’s response. While Punjab was not usually affected by such disasters, he said, Sindh faced floods almost every year, making long-term rehabilitation critical.

Qamar stressed that coalition partners had the right to advise one another and said criticism should not be taken negatively, expressing regret over recent political remarks.
