President Prime mInister Youme Takbeer

ISLAMABAD – On the 27th anniversary of Pakistan’s historic nuclear tests, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

In his message commemorating Youm-e-Takbeer, President Zardari hailed the day as a landmark moment in Pakistan’s defense history, noting that the country’s nuclear capability continues to serve as a credible minimum deterrent amid evolving regional security challenges.

“On this momentous occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, I extend heartfelt felicitations to the entire nation. It is a day that reminds us of our strategic resolve and commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and security of our homeland,” President Zardari said.

He paid tribute to the scientists, engineers, and both civilian and military leadership whose tireless efforts made the 1998 nuclear tests possible. He also acknowledged the foundational role of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in initiating the nuclear program and Benazir Bhutto’s leadership in further advancing it.

While affirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability, the president condemned recent acts of unprovoked Indian aggression and praised Pakistan’s measured response under Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. “Our response was deliberate and effective, compelling the adversary to halt its hostile actions,” he added.

Zardari called on the nation to renew its pledge to defend the country’s freedom and uphold the legacy of strategic deterrence.

‘Iron Resolve and National Unity’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, describing Youm-e-Takbeer not only as a commemoration of a historic achievement but also as a solemn reminder of the nation’s steadfast determination to defend itself.

“Today, on Youm-e-Takbeer, I thank Allah Almighty and congratulate every patriotic Pakistani. It was on this day that we declared to the world that Pakistan’s security and sovereignty are non-negotiable,” PM Shehbaz said in his address.

He linked this year’s anniversary with Pakistan’s recent military response to Indian provocations, saying the nation had once again demonstrated unity, resolve, and resilience. “The spirit of May 1998 lives on in our recent victory. The joy of Youm-e-Takbeer is magnified by our successful defense against an unjustified war,” he added.

The prime minister honored the legacy of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, under whose leadership the six nuclear tests were carried out in response to India’s five, despite immense international pressure and threats of sanctions. “It was a moment of iron resolve, showing the world that Pakistan would never compromise on its defense,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to key figures in Pakistan’s nuclear journey, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientific community, armed forces, and the Pakistani people for their sacrifices and support.

He called on the nation to channel the same spirit of unity and determination into building a strong economy. “Youm-e-Takbeer is not just a reminder of our defense strength—it’s a call to action for economic sovereignty. We pledge today to transform Pakistan into an economic power and elevate its standing in the world. Insha Allah. Long live Pakistan.”

The commemorative messages come as Pakistan reflects on both past milestones and recent confrontations that have reignited regional tensions. Despite challenges, the leadership emphasized national unity, strategic strength, and a forward-looking vision for peace and prosperity.
