Following the cancellation of bail by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 incidents, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to approach the Supreme Court for legal relief.
The move comes after a petition was filed in the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) by the PTI founder’s sister, Aleema Khan. The petition alleged that jail authorities were obstructing the signing of a power of attorney, a necessary step to file an appeal in the apex court.
Filed by Advocate Faisal Malik, the plea highlighted the urgency of submitting the appeal before August. ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah heard the case and directed jail officials to ensure the PTI founder signs the required legal documents by the end of the day. The court also ordered that a compliance report be submitted by tomorrow.
The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for July 30.
