LAHORE (RNN TV) — A resolution condemning the brutal killing of eight Pakistani nationals in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchistan province was presented in the Punjab Assembly on Monday.

The resolution, introduced by PML-N MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt, expressed profound sorrow over the targeted killing of Pakistani workers who were employed as car mechanics in the remote Mehrestan area of Iran’s Sistan province.

The resolution stated, “This House strongly condemns the brutal murder of eight Pakistanis. The victims were hard-working laborers who went abroad in search of a livelihood.”

It further highlighted that all the victims were from Punjab and deemed the act of terrorism a deliberate attempt to undermine the friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The resolution stressed that “Iran is our neighboring Islamic brotherly nation” and called on Tehran to ensure swift justice.

“The terrorists responsible must be immediately arrested and handed over to Pakistan,” the resolution demanded, urging both governments to work together to prevent such incidents in the future.

Diplomatic Efforts Underway

Earlier, the Pakistani Foreign Office confirmed it was in continuous contact with Iranian authorities following the incident, which occurred earlier this week. A spokesperson mentioned that Pakistan’s Embassy in Tehran and Consulate in Zahedan were actively engaged with local officials to gather verified information and facilitate the repatriation of the victims’ bodies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the killings, calling the act “heinous” and a “devastating example of cross-border terrorism.” The Prime Minister urged Iranian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Iran Confirms Deaths, Launches Investigation

The Iranian Embassy in Islamabad confirmed the incident and assured that an immediate investigation was underway. A spokesperson told Samaa TV that Iranian police were committed to capturing all involved and ensuring that “the terrorists will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.” Efforts are also being made to return the victims’ bodies to Pakistan as soon as possible.

This attack marks the second such incident in recent months. In January, nine Pakistani nationals were killed in a similar attack in Saravan, near the Pakistan-Iran border, raising serious concerns about the safety of Pakistani workers in Iran’s volatile border areas.
