LAHORE (RNN NEWS) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to promoting tourism as a full-fledged industry, stating that Punjab is fully prepared to welcome both domestic and international tourists.
She made these remarks while speaking to a 25-member delegation from the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), comprising permanent representatives from the CMOs of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Iran, and Pakistan. The delegation was led by ECO Secretary-General Asad Majeed Khan.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Punjab government is actively upgrading tourist destinations across the province, not just in Lahore, and is ensuring the provision of modern facilities for all visitors.
She also expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for supporting the nomination of Lahore as the ECO Capital and shared her deep admiration for the city. “Lahore is not just a city; it’s a living museum of history,” she said. “Its ancient streets, archaeological sites, and the unmatched warmth and hospitality of its people reflect its rich heritage.”
The chief minister highlighted her father, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s role in restoring Lahore’s cultural heritage. She pointed to iconic landmarks such as the gardens of Lahore, the Royal Fort, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites as evidence of the city’s grandeur.
Maryam Nawaz also noted that Punjab is rapidly emerging as a hub for business, technology, education, and services. She added that the province holds vast potential in agriculture, tourism, and industry, with foundational work already underway to attract foreign investment in these sectors.
ECO Secretary-General Asad Majeed Khan recalled Pakistan’s joining of ECO in 1992 under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and lauded the efforts of CM Maryam and her team for restoring Lahore’s cultural legacy and boosting tourism.
The delegation presented the Chief Minister with a piece of calligraphy and other commemorative souvenirs in appreciation of her leadership.
Earlier, Maryam Nawaz formally welcomed the delegation in Lahore, and Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb gave a briefing on the key features of the provincial tourism development initiative.
