
KARACHI (RNN TV) — Celebrated chef Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 58 after a prolonged battle with kidney disease, his nephew Shayan Qureshi confirmed on Monday night.
Shayan revealed that Chef Zakir had been undergoing treatment in the United States, but doctors had advised that further medical intervention would not be effective. The renowned chef returned to Karachi a month ago to spend his final days at home.
The funeral prayers for Zakir Hussain will be held today after the Asr prayer at Jamia Rashidiya in Malir, Saudabad.
Born on February 16, 1967, in Karachi, Zakir came from a family deeply rooted in culinary traditions. His father, Abdul Aziz Qureshi, was a distinguished chef with a national airline, inspiring many family members, including Zakir, to follow in his footsteps.
Zakir received his early education at Kulsoom Bai Valika School and later attended Allama Iqbal College. His professional journey began in 1980 at the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi, where he honed his skills in the culinary arts.
His career took him internationally, working in Dubai, Singapore, South Africa, and Botswana. He spent a decade in the United Kingdom, mastering his craft alongside top chefs. Upon returning to Pakistan in the early 1990s, Zakir became a household name, hosting several popular cooking shows across various television channels. Through these shows, he shared his extensive knowledge of Pakistani, Asian, and international cuisines with millions of viewers.\
