Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz passes away

Riyadh (Web Desk) — Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, has passed away, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed their condolences to the late scholar’s family, the Saudi people, and Muslims worldwide.

The funeral prayer will be held after Asr prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. King Salman has also directed that funeral prayers in absentia be offered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom.

In a statement, the Royal Court said: “With the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who dedicated his life to serving Islam and Muslims.”

Appointed as Grand Mufti in 1999 by King Fahd, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh succeeded Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ibn Baz. He also served as president of the Council of Senior Scholars and was known for delivering Hajj sermons over the years.
