Security forces have neutralized 17 terrorists in North Waziristan’s Hassan Khel area, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, according to the military’s media wing, ISPR. The operation, which took place on Monday, follows the elimination of 54 terrorists a day earlier during an attempt to infiltrate from Afghanistan.
ISPR confirmed that this marked the highest number of terrorists killed in a single engagement in the ongoing anti-terrorism campaign. The military operation was conducted as part of a broader effort to secure the region. ISPR stated that the 17 terrorists were “operating on the behest of their Indian masters” and were successfully neutralized during the sanitization operation.
A large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered from the slain terrorists. With the three-day operation now concluding, the total number of terrorists killed has reached 71.
The military has pledged continued efforts to safeguard Pakistan’s borders and prevent any attempts to destabilize the nation. Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist activities in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the collapse of the ceasefire between the government and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in late 2022.
