ISLAMABAD (RNN TV) – The Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution rejecting India’s attempt to link Pakistan to the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
At least 26 people, mostly Indian nationals and one Nepali, were killed and 17 others injured when gunmen opened fire earlier this week in Pahalgam. India has since blamed Pakistan for the incident without providing evidence, prompting sharp reactions from Islamabad.
A day earlier, the National Security Committee (NSC) urged India to “refrain from its reflexive blame game and cynical, stage-managed exploitation” of such incidents to further a “narrow political agenda.”
In its resolution, the Senate strongly condemned terrorism in all forms and rejected “frivolous and baseless attempts to link Pakistan with the Pahalgam Attack of April 22, 2025.” It described India’s allegations as part of an “orchestrated and mala fide campaign” to malign Pakistan, consistent with a “familiar pattern” of exploiting terrorism for political gains.
The resolution also condemned India’s unilateral decision to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty — calling the move a “blatant violation” and “an act of war.” The treaty, brokered by the World Bank, has survived decades of conflict between the two nations.
Following the Pahalgam incident, India downgraded diplomatic ties, closed its borders with Pakistan, and announced the suspension of the water-sharing treaty, all while accusing Islamabad of supporting cross-border terrorism.
The Senate warned that Pakistan is “fully capable and prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” referencing its response to Indian actions in February 2019. Any future misadventure by India, it said, would be met with a “firm, swift and decisive response.”
While reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the Senate stressed it would not compromise on national security and interests. The resolution also called for India to be held accountable for its alleged involvement in cross-border terrorism and assassinations, including on Pakistani soil.
The resolution concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s “unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support” for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.
