SINDH (RNN TV) — As tensions rise over the controversial canal project, the Sindh government has expressed its willingness to engage in talks, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif set to decide the way forward.

Special Assistant to the PM on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated that the Prime Minister will make the final decision on the matter, while Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon emphasized that any talks will be conducted at the government-to-government level.

Sanaullah also downplayed comments made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who had warned that his party would leave the ruling coalition if the federal government failed to address concerns over the canal project. “Bilawal’s remarks were made in the heat of the moment during a public gathering,” he said, urging restraint and mutual respect in political discourse.

On the topic of the opposition PTI, Sanaullah criticized their behavior during prison visits. “Those listed for meetings should go; others create unnecessary tension,” he remarked, calling for better conduct and cooperation with prison staff.

Memon reiterated the Sindh government’s position, stressing that the canal issue is of public concern and that the PPP would continue to advocate for the people of Sindh. “We have raised objections to the project at various forums,” he said, adding that the federal government is welcome to engage in discussions.

Protests in Sindh over the canal project continue to disrupt daily life. Memon urged protesters to ensure their demonstrations remain peaceful. “We ask protesters to avoid blocking roads and railway tracks, as it harms the common people. Livestock trucks are stuck, and food is spoiling due to these blockages,” he noted.

While acknowledging the right to protest, Memon emphasized that the Sindh government is working to resolve the issue through dialogue and is engaging with protesters to prevent further escalation. “We are committed to finding a peaceful resolution,” he concluded.
