KHANKENDI (RNN TV) — Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation, with a focus on boosting trade and investment, during high-level talks held on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Khankendi on Friday, where both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current momentum in bilateral relations and agreed to further enhance economic engagement.

The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, particularly Azerbaijan’s growing interest in investment opportunities within Pakistan. Both sides emphasized the importance of translating their shared economic vision into concrete initiatives and reiterated their resolve to build a robust economic partnership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is in Azerbaijan leading Pakistan’s delegation at the ECO Summit, held from July 3–4, 2025. On the sidelines of the summit, he held a productive bilateral meeting with President Aliyev and congratulated him for successfully hosting the event.

During the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz also thanked the Azerbaijani leadership and people for their warm hospitality during his earlier visit to Lachin from May 27–29, 2025. He acknowledged Azerbaijan’s unwavering support for Pakistan during its recent tensions with India and noted that Islamabad had similarly stood by Baku during its difficult times.

The prime minister described recent high-level engagements between the two countries as a key factor in strengthening bilateral relations. He extended an invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience to continue this momentum of cooperation.
